I got this mainly for motion alerts, but the notifications are kinda unreliable. Sometimes they show up minutes late, and other times they don’t come through at all. By the time my phone buzzes, whatever happened is already over. I tried changing the settings and even reinstalling the app, but it didn’t really help. Frustrating overall.
"Blurry even in good lighting?!"
I was surprised by how blurry and grainy the footage looks, even when the lighting is totally fine?! I expected it to be much clearer, so this was disappointing.

I gave the Yi cameras a try, but the privacy side of things made me uneasy. The app seemed to ask for more access than I expected, and I never really felt like I understood where my data or home video was going. The security settings weren’t super clear either, which didn’t help. I tried reaching out for answers, but the email replies felt like they were written by robots and didn’t really address my concerns. In the end, I removed the cameras because I just didn’t feel comfortable trusting them with footage from inside my home.

"Pan and tilt feels clunky, and the terms changed"
I bought this camera mostly for the pan and tilt feature, but it’s been frustrating. The controls in the app lag way too much, so I’ll tap to move it left and it either reacts late or goes farther than I wanted.
The video quality is fine enough, but actually moving the camera feels cheap and slow. What annoyed me even more is that the terms seemed to change after I bought it, which just makes the whole experience feel a bit misleading. It’s not completely useless, but it’s definitely not what I thought I was getting...

I bought this to use with Alexa and Google Home, but the setup has been super frustrating!! The app keeps saying everything is connected, but the devices still don’t actually do anything.

"Started Fine, But My Gut Says Don’t Trust It"
I got a YI camera for my front door it seemed decent at first. Setup wasn’t a hassle and the picture quality was good enough for what I needed. But after a few months, it started randomly going offline, and now I’m constantly having to unplug it just to get it working again. For something that’s supposed to be a security camera, that just doesn’t sit right with me. Support did respond, but nothing really got fixed. My gut feeling is this isn’t something I’d rely on long term, and I wouldn’t buy another one.

"Field of view is way too narrow!!!"
I bought one of these cameras thinking it would easily cover my small driveway, but the field of view is disappointing!!! I really expected it to catch more than it does.
It misses both sides unless you somehow place it in the absolute perfect spot, which just doesn’t work with my setup!!! I still end up with blind spots near the garage door, which is exactly where I don’t want blind spots.
For a security camera, coverage should be the whole point!!! I’m disappointed with it overall and definitely wouldn’t buy it again!!!

"Battery dies way too fast"
I bought the Yi camera thinking it would be a solid little option for daily use, but the battery life has been disappointing. The weird part is, I’m not even recording that much and it still drains way faster than I expected.
I feel like I’m constantly having to charge it, which kind of defeats the whole purpose for me. I also tried looking through the support info, but it didn’t really solve anything. i wouldn’t buy it again

"Not Great in Low Light"
It works okay during the day, but at night the picture gets way too grainy for my liking, if that makes sense. I was hoping for a clearer image in low light...

"The camera is working okay now…"
The camera is working okay now, so I’m not saying it’s a bad product or anything, but getting it installed was a hassle. The app kept freezing on me, and the WiFi setup failed like four times before it finally decided to connect. Maybe I’m missing something, but the instructions didn’t really make things any clearer either. It’s not the worst camera I’ve used, I just think it’s fair to expect the setup to be a lot smoother than this.

"Warranty Process Was a Huge Hassle"
My camera stopped working, and dealing with the warranty was just frustrating. Support kept asking me for the same info over and over, and the return instructions were confusing. I remember sitting there with the camera on my kitchen table next to a half-eaten banana, thinking this should not be this complicated. It dragged on way too long, and I still never got a real fix. I won’t be buying from them again

"Not the easiest app to figure out"
I wanted to like this app, but it was hard to use. Reading between the lines, it feels like it might have a lot of features, but they’re not laid out in a way that makes sense right away. I spent more time trying to figure out where things were than actually getting anything done.

"Login is okay, but a little glitchy sometimes"
Most of the time I can log into my account just fine, but every now and then it randomly kicks me out and I have to try again :/ It’s not a huge deal, just kind of annoying when it happens

I got the YI camera mostly for the motion alerts, but they’re all over the place. It’ll miss someone walking right past my porch, then a minute later I’ll get pinged for a shadow or some car way out in the street. I’ve messed with the sensitivity and the zones a bunch, but it still isn’t very reliable. The video looks okay, so it’s not totally useless, but the motion detection makes it hard to really trust it. Not the worst camera ever, just...pretty frustarting.
"Not really worth it"
I wanted to like it but for the price it just did not feel worth it to me. I expected a bit more and ended up feeling disappointed

"Not as Weatherproof as It Should Be"
I put this camera outside where it only got regular rain, nothing extreme, and after a few weeks it just stopped working. Somehow water got inside, which really shouldn’t happen with something sold as an outdoor camera. it feels wrong to market a product for outdoor use if it can’t handle basic weather. Definitely disappointed and annoyed.

The camera itself is fine, but the local storage has been frustrating for me. I expect something like this to save clips reliably without needing a bunch of extra troubleshooting, and that hasn’t really been my experience. Setup also felt more annoying than it should have been. It works, but not as smoothly as I’d personally want.

The product was fine, but the shipping took way longer than I expected. I think it was close to 2 weeks before it finally showed up, which felt like a lot for something I figured would take a few days

"Update made everything worse"
So the firmware update somehow broke my notifications, and now the app keeps freezing too. Like, it was working totally fine before, so why did this update make it worse? I reached out to support and they took way too long to get back, which just made the whole thing even more annoying. Frustrating experience honestly
